One of the lesser-known national parks in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Pench is definitely a promising tourist attraction in this part of the world. Located at a distance of 92 kms from Nagpur, Pench is easily accessible from the major cities of MP.
In 1992, Pench was included in 'Project Tiger', the tiger preservation initiative of the Indian government.
The Pench National Park is cuddled amongst the magnificent Satpura Hills and is named after River Pench that crisscrosses the national park. Located in a region that has more than one-thirds of the country's tiger population, Pench National Park stands out in its own unique way.
Made up of deciduous Teak forests, Pench is spread across an area of 760 sq. kms. The Pench reservoir serves as the main water source for the whole park. There are quite a few water streams present inside Pench.
Pench is mainly known for its tiger reserve. More than 55 in number, the tigers can be seen around the water bodies, or on the lookout for their preys. Other animals that are easily visible here are elephants, leopard, cheetah, wild boar, etc. Apart from this, there are more than 200 species of birds in Pench National Park.
You can hire a jeep safari in the morning or evening and undertake a guided tour of Pench for the most memorable expedition of your life.
Pench is open for public from 1st October to 30th June every year. Due to heavy rains, the park is closed for the left three months.
